What can I expect during my first visit? Your first visit will include an in-depth intake discussing your main complaints, in addition to your full health history. The practitioner will then feel your pulse and look at your tongue, both of which aid in the diagnostic process. After the intake you will lay on a massage table, either on your back or front, depending on what's needed that day, sterile needles will be inserted and you will be left to rest for about 30 minutes. Additional modalities may be used depending on the nature of your condition. The initial treatment will take about 90 minutes in total. Follow up appointments are usually about 60. It is recommended to wear loose clothing that can be rolling up the elbow or knee. Also, it is important to eat a light meal/snack about 1 hour prior to treatment.
Is acupuncture painful? Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, different than the hollow hypodermic needles Doctor's use for injection. Generally, a patient may feel a slight pinch, likened to that of a bug bite, or nothing at all. Once the needles are inserted the patient often forgets they are there.
How many treatments will I need? The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient. Generally, the more chronic or severe a condition, the more treatments will be needed. Some ailments may resolve within 3-4 treatments, whereas others may take months. Preventative wellness treatments are recommended a month or seasonally depending on the individual.
